Player Ratings: Man United 4 - Man City 3

Ben Foster Misjudged how much time he had on the ball for City’s first goal and paid the highest price.

John O’Shea Steady display from the Irishman, although he was given a tough afternoon with the pace of the pesky Craig Bellamy.

Rio Ferdinand His error led to City’s third goal and it wasn’t the best day at the office for United’s back four.

Nemanja Vidic Looked solid enough and couldn’t really be blamed for any of the goals conceded, but he’ll join in the collective disappointment of United’s back four.

Patrice Evra Good afternoon’s work. Attacked well and played his part in United’s second goal, but also dealt well with the significant threat of Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Ji-sung Park Came into the game more in the second half with two good shots, one narrowly over, the other just wide.

Darren Fletcher He’s developing into the all-round midfielder – and one of the best in the business at that – and his two goals were clearly vital.

Anderson Grew in confidence and stature as the game progressed. Instrumental in United’s second half dominance on the ball.

Ryan Giggs Came into his own in the second half where he terrorised City down the left flank. Amazingly this is his 30th consecutive derby.

Dimitar Berbatov Flashes of class and went close on several occasions, but inevitably sacrificed for the in-the-box ability of Michael Owen.nerve really well to open the scoring.

Substitutes

Antonio Valencia (on for Park 62) Brought a real purpose down the right hand side as City were penned into their own half.

Michael Owen (on for Berbatov 78) Well, it’s only really one touch that mattered. This goal will certainly endear him to the United faithful.

Michael Carrick (on for Anderson 90) Plenty of composure on the ball but little time to really impress.
