United eye Russia keeper Akinfeev

Manchester United are targeting a move for Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. The Barclays Premier League champions are preparing for life without Edwin van der Sar, who is set to retire at the end of the season. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is yet to be convinced that Ben Foster is the long-term replacement.
CSKA Moscow stopper Akinfeev, 23, has now emerged as an option next summer, although Ferguson will face tough competition from Europe's biggest clubs, according to the Daily Mirror. Foster has started all of United's matches this season with Van der Sar not expected to return until October after breaking a bone and a finger in his left hand. England international Foster has leapfrogged Tomasz Kuszczak in the pecking order, with the Pole considering his future at Old Trafford.
